Summer boating

Nicole visted us on her whirlwind stop heading for Thailand this summer. It was wonderful to see her looking so good. She and Dad kayaked the Lake and creek. Believe it or not we had a spot of good weather for their outing.
Here is a photo of the creek. Lots of waterlilies and reeds.
The intrepid canoer in his portaboat. Oh look he is wearing his life jacket!
The beautiful kayaker in the lake. Oh look she has her life jacket on!

I am back

Here are more photos of the yard. I have two weeping roses by the side of the garage. When I purchased them they were bare root and by the time I planted them they were very sad looking with wilted sprouts. But after many weeks they leafed out and blooms galore. Since this was their first year I think the stems will be fuller in the future. I am very happy with them.

Lace cap hydrangeas are one of my favorite plants. Here is a close up. They are not native but I think this particular type looks natural in the yard.

This is the bunny playgound. Bare dirt in the garden. There were lettuce plants here. Mowed down before we could make a salad. We do have other veggies but the bunnies like lettuce.

Thank you for looking.

Sundry photos

Some photos to see.

New fabrics. I am planning a citron, grey, black, teal quilt.
So I need to collect. There are so many great prints out.

Local organic strawberries. They smell just like they use to
when I picked them as a child. REAL strawberries taste amazing.
And they look like beautiful art all nestled together.

Randy's new acquisition. A collapsible kayak. Here resting
in the garage. He is very happy. It travels in two bags for easy
transport down the slope to the lake.

Yard in waiting

The bright spot in the background is the creek.

Japanese maple. Lots of empty space!

Dogwood on new slope.

Photos of the yard. Too much rain and cold temperatures have stopped progress and growing. Hopefully summer will start soon. I will post more pictures when I make progress. The yard is still new and needs filling in and structure.

Zucchero Zucchero

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FAxyTBu_Dk
This is one of my favorite songs from Zucchero. He has done it alone, with Pavarotti and now with Cheb Mami. Wow it is soooo good. Please enjoy

I love glittery things and now I have some fabric the sparkles. Here is the new addition to my stash. It will be going with dark colors. The fabric has glitter but is machine washable and dryable without loss of glitter! My only concern is if the dark colors will bleed on the white. So I will have to wash the darks well and maybe rinse with vinegar.
There is white/silver, white/gold, white/white and platinum/silver.
Now I will just finish my Master Bedroom quilt (photos to follow in next post) and get to this fun quilt.

Oh look! Knitpicks has a new beautiful sock yarn. They have great sock yarn at reasonable prices and great colors.
I think my sister should buy some right now! Socks are fun to make and the colors are motivating to knit. My sister NEEDS this yarn, she wants this yarn, the yarn will fulfill her life and bring joy. I am glad she will add this to her stash. I wonder what colors she will get?
Maybe she will let us know when she buys the beautiful, soft, luxurious, and yet sturdy yarn.

Rain chain and crazy old men.

Happy day everybody.
We recently put up a copper rain chain at the side of our house. We did not want a downspout there to break up the look of the house. So it finally rained enough today to see what it would do. When I got home from grocery shopping there was a super downpour with dark scary clouds. They rain did fan out too much farther down the chain but then it worked great when the rain changed to typical PNW weather. The water is now funnelled into the pot. Yeah it worked.
Okay crazy old men. Please God do not let me sound like this is 10 or so years. I was at Fred Meyers and walked past the electronic department where a group of 5 men in their 70's was
talking. Evidently one of them asked about the Avatar movie. And another let him know he should not buy it because it was made my James Cameron who is a communist. "You know one of those guys who talks about peace and stuff." Evidently calling someone a communist is popular and fun!! What are we in the McCarthy era? So yes these people live amongst us and possibly are related to us. Enough said.

Here is my new yarn purchase to add to my stash. It is Manos silk blend. One of my favorite yarn companies.

I purchased it at Canvas Works in Olympia WA. Every Mother's Day weekend they have a sale and I go down to visit my son and shop with my sister at the crazy sale. It is very popular and hard to choose what you want. They carry yarn and fabric including hardware and notions.
I believe I will use it for a shawl in a bit of a lace pattern. I also bought some Shot Cottons by Westminster. I will show photos soon when I get to using them.
We had a nice weekend in Olympia. Beautiful weather and great company.

Eagles

As if we all needed more excuses to stare at our computer screens
I have one that is mesmerizing;

There is a camera on an eagle's nest in BC. There is a single baby called Solo and you can watch him grow and see the parents feed and care for him. They are magnificent birds.
